Photo essay: a junco and a bear among the giant sequioas
We just spent a couple of too-short, yet rejuvenating days in Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Parks just east of Fresno, where I managed to capture some decent images. I'll upload a full album to my gallery when I get a chance one of these days, but here are some vignettes from the Giant Forest - I hope you like them!
In the spirit of the lazy summer afternoon, this wee little dark-eyed junco was preening itself in a giant's shade (that red streak in the background, a young Sequoia trunk) when it paused to regard me with this sidelong glance,

before hopping off the trunk,

and resuming its hunt for a tea-time snack in the undergrowth.

A little while later, a not-so-wee black bear rummaged through the same forest, it too a dwarf among the giants!

Meanwhile, in the nearby meadow

bees buzzed drunkenly amid lupines

and an Indian paintbrush leaned against a trunk as if resting from the labors of coloring the giants' red wood.

Aahhh... 'twas a pity we had to turn our backs on them all and head back to the urban jungle!

Its back to the grind now... until next time, hopefully soon!

Beautiful photos bro', and your prose ain't bad either... especially for a non-native speaker. Is a coffee table book in the offing? "The Tree Where Junco was born?"
very beauteous - dave i c u r back in sd? - jim clifford
Thanks, Dave, I suppose!
You know, I come from a former English colony too, just like you; I guess the difference is that some of us actually hung on to a whole bunch of other languages, and simply added English on top!
i told your wife (and i hope you too!) long ago that you were then (and obviously still are) a master of the written word, madhu. i didn't realize you were so good with a camera, however! i haven't been up to king's canyon since i was a child - it was one place where my dad took the whole family to camp and trout fish. i loved the photos and reflections (visual and verbal)... thanks for sharing.
Beautiful prose bro', and your pictures aren't bad either...especially for non-tripod shots.
And it should be "prose isn't bad..." Mr. native English speaker!
